What Cloup is
Cloup is a link collection and sharing service operated by Lakehead & Woodland LLC ("we", "us", "our"). You save URLs, we fetch preview metadata (title, description, image) and display them as visual cards on shareable pages.
Data we collect
- Account data: Your email address and username, provided during signup. These are the only pieces of personal information we store.
- Saved links: URLs you save, along with the preview metadata we fetch from those URLs (page title, description, image URL, favicon URL, site name).
- Collections: Titles, descriptions, and visibility settings for the pages you create.
- Authentication tokens: Session cookies and API tokens used to keep you logged in and to authenticate the browser extension.
- Usage data: We may collect anonymized usage analytics such as page views, feature usage, and performance metrics to improve the service.
Browser extension
The Cloup browser extension requests the following permissions:
- activeTab: To read the URL and title of the current page when you click "Save".
- storage: To store your authentication token and last-used page preference locally in the browser.
- contextMenus: To add "Save to Cloup" options to the right-click menu.
- identity: To open the OAuth login flow in a secure browser window.
The extension only communicates with cloup.com. It does not access browsing history, read page content, inject scripts, or transmit data to any third party.
How we use your data
Your data is used to provide and improve the Cloup service: storing your links, displaying previews, and serving your public and unlisted pages to visitors. We do not sell or rent your personal data to third parties.
Cookies and tracking
Cloup uses the following types of cookies:
- Essential cookies: A session cookie for authentication (httpOnly, secure, SameSite=Lax). This cookie is required for the service to function.
- Analytics cookies: We may use cookies from analytics providers (such as Google Analytics) to understand how visitors use Cloup. These cookies collect anonymized information about page views and interactions.
- Advertising cookies: We may display advertisements through third-party ad networks, including Google Ads. These providers may place cookies on your device to serve personalized ads based on your browsing activity across the web. You can opt out of personalized advertising through your browser settings or by visiting Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info.
- Theme preference: A local-storage value to remember your light/dark mode preference. This is not a cookie and is never sent to our servers.
Third-party services
We use the following third-party services that may process your data:
- Cloudflare: Hosting, CDN, DNS, and database infrastructure. Cloudflare may process IP addresses and request metadata for security and performance purposes.
- Stripe: All payment processing is handled by Stripe. When you make a purchase or subscribe to a paid plan, your payment information (card number, billing address) is collected and processed directly by Stripe. We never receive or store your full payment card details. Stripe's use of your data is governed by the Stripe Privacy Policy.
- Resend: Transactional email delivery (magic link sign-in emails). Resend processes your email address solely to deliver emails on our behalf.
- Google: Advertising and analytics services. Google may use cookies and similar technologies as described in the "Cookies and tracking" section above.
Where data is stored
All data is stored in Cloudflare D1 (SQLite) and served through Cloudflare's global network. Authentication tokens are hashed with SHA-256 before storage. Passwords are not used; authentication is handled via magic links.
Data retention and deletion
Your data is retained for as long as your account exists. You can delete individual links and collections at any time. To delete your entire account and all associated data, contact us at the address below.
Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to its processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.
